A friend who cares
“The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing... not healing, not curing... that is a friend who cares.” - Henri Nouwen

ohmyword, I just posted on another friend's blog a comment about one of the best and most memorable messages I ever heard. It was John Ortberg, speaking on Job. And it was basically this exact same thing. John's comment was about Job's friends coming to sit with him was that they were the original small group.
This always makes me think of when my dad died - I was on a business trip. I came home, the Hubs had called our small group, and they came over and just sat with me.
Love this quote -- thanks for posting it!
