The Sexualization of Girls

This report is a MUST read. Download it and give it away. It's a great resource. There are good reminders in here about what in our culture is contributing to the sexualization of our girls:

Television
Music Videos
Music Lyrics
Movies
Cartoons & Animation
Magazines
Sports Media
Video/Computer Games
Internet
Advertising
Products
Clothing
Cosmetics

My heart aches for the high school girls in our group. It aches for the single women in our church. May our girls and women first start with the Bible's contribution of what makes a woman. May our girls and women then be able to effectively live in this world and bear witness to the truth from Proverbs 31:30, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."

It's not just the single women that you should be worried about. Sometimes (maybe most of the time) it seems like my married friends struggle with their appearance and sexuality a lot more than I do. They have someone to impress, someone who sees them every day - both dressed and undressed, someone who knows what they eat and how often and whether or not they're working out. And they worry about whether or not they are sexy enough for their husbands.
One of the perks of being single is that the only person whose opinion you have to confront every day is your own (which, of course, is a battle in and of itself, but that's another conversation).
